Apple’s new Apple TV 4K has recently been available in stores. The group had presented its new set-top box at the spring event and highlighted the innovations. This also means that YouTube now enables the playback of 4K videos at 60 fps.
YouTube videos in 4K at 60fps on the Apple TV 4K
This emerges from the first user reports who have already unpacked and tried out their new Apple TV. The new Apple TV 4K has an A12 Bionic processor, which is now able to support new playback modes that were not previously offered. Thanks to the powerful A12 chip, YouTube can now play 4K videos at 60 fps on the new Apple TV 4K. That means a much smoother playback. While YouTube already offered support for 4K videos, this was limited to 30 fps, but the new hardware now extends this to up to 60 fps. The feature was confirmed in the MacRumors forum, among others, Apple and YouTube had not yet reported anything about it.
The New AppleTV
The addition now seems to work due to the YouTube video codec, as it requires increased computing power. So far – as far as we know – this playback mode is exclusively available on the Apple TV. Users should now be pleased, as the image quality naturally increases with more images per second. While the design of the Apple TV itself has remained more or less the same, Apple has fundamentally revised and improved the Siri Remote. For many users, the Siri remote control is the main reason to switch to the new model.
