Zoom Becomes the Most Downloaded App Worldwide in Q2 2020

According to the Sensor Tower’s Q2 2020 Data Digest, the global app exosystem has set a new global record with 37.8 billion downloads. For this quarter, Zoom was the most downloaded app worldwide.

Coming to the overall downloads, the firm revealed that Apple App store downloads surged by 22.6pc to 9.1 billion while Google Play Store witnessed 34.9pc growth to 28.7 billion. During Q2 2020, the apps that came under the category of business, health & fitness, and education grew.

Regarding Zoom, a senior mobile insights analyst at Sensor Tower stated, “Zoom was the top app by downloads worldwide, in the US, and in Europe for the quarter. It was only the third app to reach 300 million installs in a quarter, joining TikTok and Pokémon Go in accomplishing this feat. Covid-19 reshaped the app landscape in the first half of 2020. Top business apps like Google Meet and Microsoft Teams achieved all-time download highs in Q2 [2020], and India’s Covid-19 contact tracing app Aarogya Setu reached the top [ten] at [number] 7.”

According to Briskman, Zoom completely destroyed the App Store installs record in this quarter with almost 94 million downloads. Earlier, Tiktok held the most downloaded app record in Q1 2020 of 67 million downloads. He further stated that no other non-game app has crossed 50 million in a quarter.

Amidst COVID-19, professional meetings, educational classes shifted online and most of the professionals used the Zoom app, as it has its advantages.
