The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee (RHC) chairman has made the announcement that the moon has been sighted in Pakistan and the month of Muharram-ul-Haram would commence from Friday, reported ARY News.
Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman announced about the moon sighting after he chaired the central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meeting in Karachi which started after Asr prayers.
Muharram is the first month in the Islamic lunar calendar thus the new year starts with the moon sighting of this month. The Shia Muslims observe this month of mourning across the world.
The zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committee meetings were also arranged for gathering evidence in regards to the sighting of the Muharram moon.
The Pakistan Meteorological department has previously said that there is a high chance of moon sighting of Muharram-ul-Haram on the 20th of August (Thursday).
In its statement, the weather department said that the new moon of Muharram, 1442 AH would be born on the crossing conjunctions point of 07:42 PST on the 19th of August.
On the other hand, as per the latest development the Supreme Court has given four more weeks to the Pakistan Railways to overhaul the department.
