17-day winter vacations have been announced by the Punjab government. Punjab School Education Department has issued a notification regarding the winter holidays in the public and private schools across the province.
According to the notification, winter vacations will be observed from December 20, 2019, to January 5, 2020, in Punjab schools. The schools will reopen from 6th January 2020.
Earlier on March 14th, 2019, a notification was issued in which the winter vacations were announced from 20th December 2019 to December 31st, 2019.
It is important to mention here that last year the winter vacations for private and public educational institutions were extended due to severe cold weather and fog. They were extended till 15th January 2019.
A notification is also circulating on Twitter of Government of Pakistan, Federal Directorate of Education. The notification states that winter break will be effective from 23rd December to 31st December 2019 in all the educational institutions working under the administrative control of the Federal Directorate of Education, Islamabad. The institutions will reopen from 1st January 2020.
It has been going for many years now that the government extends winter vacations due to extreme weather conditions and smog issues. Smog is linked with many health-related issues thus keeping the health of children in mind and the danger smog possess the vacations were extended in the past.
