Windows Defender Comes With Excellent Results

Defender for endpoint

Windows Defender, which is preinstalled on Windows 10 and Windows 11, is one of the best virus protection programs in 2021. This is the result of the new tests by AV-Test – and it is a bit surprising, after the many criticisms of the Defender in recent months.

It is a comparison test of antivirus solutions for home use. The independent IT security institute AV-Test looked at and rated 21 different solutions in September and October. In addition to performance and security, user-friendliness was also compared. All security products were examined in their standard configuration in connection with Windows 10 Home, so no further settings were made.

AV with default settings

According to the report, Windows Defender, Avira, McAfee, Avast, AVG, and several other antivirus apps were tested for various security aspects, including zero-day malware, cyberattacks, infected emails, and so on. “We always used the latest, publicly available version of all products for the tests. They were allowed to update themselves at any time and query their in-the-cloud services,” says the test report.

Windows Defender test results are awesome

Windows Defender received high marks for it in the areas of protection, performance, and usability. Other security solutions from vendors like McAfee and Avast also got full marks, but Windows Defender is the only free antivirus solution that is rated as recommended by AV-Test.

In the test, security products can each receive a maximum of 6 points in the categories of protection, performance, and usability. Windows Defender received a full 18 points, which makes it a good choice for Windows 10 – this will probably also apply to Windows 11, but the long-term results are still missing.

New Windows Security app for Windows 11

As part of its efforts to improve cross-platform security solutions, Microsoft is already working on a new Defender. The app is called ” Microsoft Defender Preview ” and enables users to jointly monitor their Windows 11 PCs as well as Macs and mobile platforms such as Android and iOS.
