The news came out today that WAPDA (Water and Power Development Authority) has started recruiting Grade 6 to Grade 16 officials for the construction of Diamer-Bhasha Dam.
The recruitment has been advertised on 124 vacancies for the officials of Grade 6-Grade 16, said the spokesperson of WAPDA. He further said that the residents living in Gilgit-Baltistan and Diamer will be appointed on the positions.
Furthermore, 317 security positions and 179 vacancies of Grade 14-20 officials were also advertised. As per the spokesperson of WAPDA, the residents of Gilgit-Baltistan and the project’s area will be the first priority so that the economic progress of the locals can be ensured.
Previously in July, the construction work of the Mega Hydroelectricity project Diamer-Basha Dam was inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan. The project is billed as a historic milestone in the development of the country.
The PM visited the site himself accompanied by ISI General Lt. General Faiz Hameed and General Qamar Bajwa Chief of Army Staff. Moreover, Ali Amin Gandapur Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, and Faisal Vawda Federal Minister Water and Power were also present at the site of the project.
This dam is going to have the capacity to produce 4500 megawatts of electricity. Also, it will help to save 2.48 billion dollars yearly in terms of fuel charges. Most probably, the project will complete until 2027.
