In a few weeks time, newly built Islamabad International Airport will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. By mid of April, the airport will be finally operational.

Recently the name of the new Islamabad Airport was finalized. The Federal Cabinet has given a green signal for the name of the new Islamabad Airport in a meeting that was held at the Prime Minister office. Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi chaired the meeting where the name was finalized. The airport would now officially be called “Islamabad International Airport”.

The airport has had issues of delays and cost ups and downs. There were many deadlines set for the completion of the airport which was not met. Let us hope that this time finally the airport will be inaugurated in April 2018. The VVIP lounge does seem to be complete and ready for usage.

The initial estimated cost of PC-1 in the development of new Islamabad Airport was Rs. 37 billion which is now escalated to Rs. 100 billion, an increase of 170 percent in total costs.

Though the cost increased and deadlines were not met, but now the airport is finally in its last stages. The aim is to increase air traffic and give more options to the travelers which will be achieved through this new airport.
