New Islamabad International Airport was inaugurated on May 3rd. All regular flights shifted from old Benazir Airport to the New Islamabad airport. But here is a twist.
The VIPs and VVIPs are not using new Islamabad Airport for travel. They are still using the Benazir Bhutto International Airport.
There is a VIP lounge at the new Islamabad International Airport for the government officials and VIP individuals. But strangely the ex and present government officials are still going through the Benazir Bhutto VIP lounge for traveling.
The reason given for this is that Benazir Bhutto Airport has fewer security issues and it is closer to Islamabad. Also, VIPs feel that as the roads going towards the new airport are not yet completed thus it is a hassle for them to travel to the new airport.
VIPs will travel through the new airport once the security clearance is given and roads are completely established.
Among the travelers from the old airport ex-disqualified Prime Minister Nawaz Shareef and his daughter Maryam Nawaz, and former President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari are included.
So yes, when the public travels all the way to the new airport, despite traffic issues, bad conditions of roads, our government officials travel with ease and comfort through the old airport.
On May 3rd the New Islamabad International Airport was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. PK-300 carrying 150 travelers was the first flight from Karachi to land at the New Islamabad International Airport. The airport opened after years of delay yet it had major faults, the baggage system failed on the very first day, flights got delayed, the system went down and people suffered. So clear,ly we can see why the VIPs are not using the new airport yet.
