Utility Stores to be Given Rs.6 billion for Bringing the Prices of Essential Items Down

Firdous Ashiq Awan—the Special Assistant to PM on Information and Broadcasting announced on Friday that the government would immediately give Rs.6 billion to the Utility Stores Corporation—USC for bringing down the prices of the essential items.

As per her tweet, the amount would be substantially bringing down the prices of edible oil, rice, flour, sugar and pulses.

The Special Assistant to PM said that the decision was taken today in a meeting that was held to discuss the options for offering relief to the general public and to bring down the prices of the essential items.

She said that PM Imran Khan headed the meeting. The PM held three consecutive meetings on the matter in the last 3 days.

As per sources, previously on Thursday the PM had asked the top officials of the USC for devising a relief package for selling the 5 essential food commodities on discount throughout the nation.

The 5 products would be made available at 4,000 USC outlets across the nation.

The Prime Minister had already asked for the formation of a Special Cell in the Ministry of National Food Security. The cell would take on-time decisions about the assessment of demand and supply of the essential commodities.
