US officials accuse China of hacking COVID-19 vaccine research

Two well-known newspapers of the United States (US) have reported that the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and other cybersecurity experts believe that the Chinese hackers are trying to steal the research on developing a vaccine against the novel coronavirus.

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Homeland Security are planning to release a warning about the Chinese hacking as the governments and private firms race to develop a vaccine for the coronavirus, the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times reported.

The report further said that the Chinese hackers are also targeting the information and intellectual property on the treatments and testing for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The officials of the US government alleged that the hackers are linked to the government of China, the report claims. The official warning from the government officials could come within days.

On the other hand, the spokesperson of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of China, Zhao Lijian had rejected the allegations, saying that China firmly opposes all the cyber-attacks.

“We are leading the world in Covid-19 treatment and vaccine research. It is immoral to target China with rumors and slanders in the absence of any evidence,” Zhao said.
