US authorities launch a national security investigation into TikTok

The government of the United States has initiated a national security investigation into TikTok owner Beijing ByteDance Co’s 1 billion dollars acquisition of US social media app Musical.ly.

While the 1 billion dollars acquisition of the US social media app was done two years ago, the lawmakers of the United States have been calling in recent weeks for a national security investigation into the video-making application TikTok, concerned that the China-based company may be censoring the politically sensitive data.

As per the details, an investigation in the Musical.ly deal has also been started by the Committee on Foreign Investments in the United States (CFIUS), a body that reviews deals by the foreign acquirers for potential national security risks.

TikTok is a video-making application that allows the users to make and upload short videos with special effects like lip-syncing of the songs and other movie clips.

The app also allows its users to simply edit their video clips through their mobile devices to share on the other social networking platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
