Labour Day is a public holiday in Pakistan, marked every year on May 1st. This year, it will be marked on Tuesday, May 1st, 2018. All government, private, educational, factories and industries are closed on this day.
Every year on Labour Day, different rallies, marches, Labour Day unions, and sessions are organized so that people and authorities realize the importance & necessity of labors in Pakistan and give them their due credit. Seminars, parades, and rallies are organized all over Pakistan by Labour unions. Speeches are given by the leaders of Labour union giving emphasis on the importance of the day.
History of Labour Day
It was in 1972 when Pakistan’s first labour policy was devised and May 1st was officially declared as a holiday. After this policy, Social Security Network, benefit schemes for old age people, fund for workers welfare was also created.
Public Transport and Ride-hailing Services on Labour Day
Chances are that public transport might suffer due to the holiday. If you want to travel, you must check first with local transport authorities whether public transport is available or not.
Also due to rallies and marches, there might be a traffic jam on road, so the advice will be to avoid traveling on May 1st.
Furthermore, those of you who depend upon ride-hailing apps for traveling, they might not work on Labour Day. Usually, when there is any public holiday, Pakistan’s government suspends the phone services due to security issues.

As ride-hailing apps depend upon phone service and an effective internet connection for communication with the rider, on these holidays the service of Careem & Uber gets affected. So again our advice will be to restrict your traveling on Labour Day, May 1st.
