UK Government Digital Strategy: Promises Investment Of 17 Million Pounds In AI Development

United Kingdom is already in the top list of world’s developed nations in terms of Technology, a home for AI tech companies. However, UK government was never looked that serious in investing huge funds in the development of Artificial Intelligence. Leaders and policy makers are seriously pursuing UK digital strategy which they believe will turn UK into the world’s most popular destination and leader in digital market. Government also believes that it will boost the UK economy.

Incorporated in this Digital Strategy is an AI review, led by Wendy Hall (Regius Professor of Computer Science at the University of Southampton) and Jérôme Pesenti (CEO of BenevolentTech), the goal is to identify how the existing technology in Britain will help to grow the country’s economy. This review will also focus on how government can work with corporations in order to accommodate the development of AI in a robust manner.

It is estimated that AI could help boosting UK economy phenomenally. The company forecasts and confirmed that AI development could bring in 654 billion pounds into the UK economy by 2035.

The digital strategy has announced that (EPSRC) Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council has allocated 17.3 million pounds for the support of robotics and AI development across the academic institutions in the UK.

Karen Bradley MP stated that this new Digital Strategy will set, “A path to make Britain the best place to start and grow a digital business, trial a new technology, or undertake advanced research as part of the Government’s plan to build a modern, dynamic and global trading nation.”

This policy with increased funding in AI is the part of UK’s big plan to make itself a leader in digital field, thus becoming a pioneer in the market, and of course it will not only be a beneficial for the economy, but would also benefit the UK’s quality of life.
