Etisalat’s rival in UAE “Du” has partnered Pakistan’s Wi-Tribe in order to develop Orient Express submarine fiber Optic cable between UAE and Pakistan. Wi-Tribe will also be a part of HB International Investments in this project and Du will be providing landing station infrastructure for connectivity.
According to the details, both companies agreement is based on “One Belt, One Road” initiative, China’s project in developing global trade routes, this opens new gateways for terrestrial connectivity towards East through Pakistan and towards West from China to Pakistan and from Pakistan to Europe.
The submarine cable will complement Du’s expanding Datamena and UAE-IX ecosystems; it will also provide connectivity to other cable systems within the region.
Cable Connectivity Points
The cable system expands over 1300km it will link landing points in Gwadar and Karachi in Pakistan to Kalba in UAE. According to the details the whole cable system would be carrying four fiber pairs and 40 Tbps of total design capacity. It will provide much faster internet connectivity to the content on the web.
Once the project is completed and the cable system is up running, it will provide Pakistan with elevated standards of data processing and internet connectivity. It will help to streamline digital penetration in Pakistan and provide telecom operators with access to competitive IP transit market.
