46 people lost their lives today morning as the Tezgam Pakistan Express caught fire near Rahim Yar Khan, as per the Deputy Commissioner—Jamil Ahmed Jamil.
The fire spread to 3 bogies of the moving train. The train was headed to Rawalpindi from Karachi and was near the Tanwari Railway Station when the fire erupted.
More than seventy people were injured in the incident, as per the confirmation of the official. He said that there were 209 people in the three bogies.
According to the details provided by the rescue officials, the fire was caused because of a cylinder explosion in the train.
As per the witnesses, the members of the Tableeghi Jamaat were on the train and has brought a gas cylinder along for cooking food. They were preparing breakfast that is when the gas cylinder exploded.
The rescue and fire brigade officials are still working at extinguishing the fire. 10 fire trucks are at the scene where the incident has taken place.
Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed—the federal minister for Railways initially confirmed about the death of 11 people and said that operations on both the train tracks have been suspended.
The people who got injured in the accident have been taken to the nearby hospitals. PM Khan has directed that they should be given the top of line medical care.
