Times Internet purchased MX Player for $200 million

MX Player, one of the highest rated video playback apps on the Google Play Store has just been acquired by the Times Internet, a leading Indian Media company for $200 million, according to The Ken.

According to the report by The Ken, the aim of the $200 million purchase is to increase the company’s push into streaming video. This action shows the second effort by the company in that market after its previous BoxTV service.

The paid version of the MX Player is at the second position in the list of top paid apps in the Video Players & Editors category on the Google’s Play Store for Android devices, and at 18th position in the same free category.

Most of us using Android devices are probably familiar with this stunning video playback app as MX Player has 100 million to 500 million downloads on the Google Play Store.

The app has 4.5 rating with a total of 5,953,378 votes. 4,197,360 out of the total votes are the 5-star rating. The publisher of the app is J2 Interactive.
