This year, mid-range phones might receive 2024 flagship power

Midrange smartphones

In 2023, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 chipset was a huge improvement for mid-range smartphones. According to reports, the chipset featured the same CPU cores as those found in the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, which debuted in 2022. Possibly another major upgrade is on the way for the upcoming Snapdragon 7+ chipset.

The upcoming Snapdragon 7 Plus processor, possibly the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3, will feature significant improvements, according to the tipster Digital Chat Station. More precisely, the leaker claims that the chipset will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s architecture (via machine translation).

Recently, Qualcomm debuted the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset that will be featured in flagship smartphones in 2024. Reportedly, it is an octa-core chipset that consists of five Cortex-A720 medium cores, a Cortex-X4 big core, and two Cortex-A520 little cores. There is a chance that the upcoming Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 might feature the same CPU cores.

When it comes to the CPU clock speeds, modem, and GPU of 2023’s Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2, there were several downgrades as compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 series. Therefore, it makes sense that comparable downgrades will occur in the forthcoming chipset. We do, however, hope that the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 is adopted more widely than its predecessor. Only three phones from Xiaomi and Realme have the Gen 2 processor, and none of them were offered in the US.
