“The Sensational Life and Death of Qandeel Baloch” to Release on May 10

Sanam Maher—a journalist and an author, her book on Qandeel Baloch is all set to hit shelves on the 10th of May. The upcoming book is titled as “The Sensational Life and Death of Qandeel Baloch”. It has been tipped that the book is the most awaited read of the present times.

Back in the year 2016, Qandeel Baloch was murdered by her own brother in the case of honour killing, after she rose to fame and popularity by posting her videos on social media platforms.

Last year a biopic regarding the life of the internet sensation hit the television screens in which the famous actress of Pakistani entertainment industry—Saba Qamar played the character of Qandeel Baloch. The television serial was named “Baaghi” and the show gathered a lot of attention and success while Saba Qamar was awarded the best actress award for her phenomenal performance.

While talking to a local newspaper Sanam reflected on the rise of Qandeel Baloch, the unlucky end to her life and a glimpse into how she was perceived during her life and after her death.

The author unveiled that her book is an attempt at telling the story about such people and place who celebrate characters like Qandeel, but also praise and applaud figures like her brother who murdered her.

Sanam began the research for the book by watching and reading everything available on the late Qandeel Baloch. She researched everything that Qandeel ever said or did including any interview or posts on social media or TV appearances or the modelling assignments. The author even met with the people who knew Qandeel, the ones who had worked with her, the ones who loved her or hated her. The officials working on Qandeel’s case also gave in their respective perspectives.

Most of the research for the book was conducted in DG Khan, Shah Sadrin and Multan while the remaining research was done in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore.
