The second phase of the Clean Karachi initiative launches from Lyari. It was inaugurated by Maritime Affairs Minister Ali Zaidi.
This time, unlike the first phase, there was no time limit given to lift the garbage from the city. He said that it is “target bound” rather than “time-bound”.
At a press conference in Lyari, he spoke with Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s federal and provincial lawmakers and appreciated the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah’s role and newly appointed Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Shah’s contribution in the initiative.
Mr. Zaidi said, “We have a two-pronged strategy in the second phase. In the first one, we will appeal to the people of Karachi to expose through social media every individual or group or business organization which is contributing to this mess.”
Adding, “For instance, if you see any individual throwing garbage on a road or witness any industry discharging untreated sewage into the sea, just share their name, pictures and details over social media with hashtag name and shame. We will send it to media houses and expose them all across Pakistan.”
He said that the campaign focuses on all garbage dumps. He said that it would lift the garbage from the sites and transport them to the landfill sites.
People of Karachi have been asked to identify these sites and help the government in cleaning them.
