The lawyer who approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) to impose a ban on the Aurat March 2020 changed his stance in the court during the hearing of the case on Thursday.
Azhar Siddique said in the court that he never wanted to stop the Aurat March 2020 from taking place in Punjab’s capital Lahore. “Do you remember the posters that women made last time and what happened after that?” he asked.
The top judge of the Lahore High Court, Justice Mamoon Sheikh, during the hearing, remarked that the court cannot impose a restriction on the freedom of expression. Chief Justice Lahore High Court pointed out that it is being reported that the case has been accepted for the hearing and that is not the case.
He further said that the irresponsible statements should not be shared on the social networking platforms.
“No one will stop the march,” the judge remarked. “We just want to know the stance of the government institutions,” he added.
It is worth mentioning here that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the police have been instructed to submit their replies in the court by March 3.
