The number of overweight or obese people in Qatar is almost double from the world’s average.
According to the media’s report, in Qatar, every 7 out of 10 people are overweight and almost 1 in 5 is facing diabetes. Most of the Qataris love to live an inactive lifestyle, they always driving around in air-conditioned cars through the country.

Later this year, Qatar is all set to become the first country in the whole world where its adult population will face the world’s most deadly diseases associated with obesity, called diabetes.
The Qatar residents’ understanding about the nutrition is quite poor. So that’s why the National Diabetes Committee took and an initiative and announced to start educating the population about the nutrition by using unconventional channels.
“I lead workshops for the imams of the country and guide them how they can use their weekly sermon to manage and improve the people’s lifestyle using the examples from our religion,” said Prof. Abdul-Badi Abou-Samra, Co-Chairman of National Diabetes Committee.
