Telenor Pakistan And NTC Signs Agreement To Provide 3G/4G Data Services All Across Pakistan

Telenor Pakistan and National Telecommunication Corporation have collaborated to provide telecom services to NTC users all around Pakistan via their network.

Services that Telenor would provide to NTC customers would be internet dongles, mobile sets and SIMs that would have 3G/4G and data service in places where NTC structure is unavailable.

The agreement was signed between both organization in a ceremony attended by CEO of Telenor Pakistan Mr Irfan Wahab and MD NTC Brig (r) Viqar Rashid Khan.
NTC provides internet and telecom services to Government of Pakistan, armed forces, local governments and defense projects. On the other hand Telenor Pakistan is the second biggest mobile operator in Pakistan having subscribers of over 36 million.

Mr Viqar Rashid Khan spoke during the agreement ceremony, highlighting the achievements of NTC in last four years. NTC was the first to introduce Cloud Based National Data Center for the public sector in Pakistan. Also the telecommunication organization pioneered fresh apps like Go-Smart for its users. It has expanded 3G/4G mobile internet network for its users under public private partnership. The service NTC provides has been extended to 87 districts and cities from 54. These include underprivileged areas in Sindh and Baluchistan. As per Mr Rashid Khan, NTC consumed 99% of its ADP budget in FY in the year 2016-17.

Other than NTC’s collaboration with Telenor Pakistan, the telecom corporation has also signed an agreement with Microsoft to provide SaaS in Pakistan via its cloud based National Data Centre.

The future plans of NTC are to develop a strategically important submarine cable landing station in Gawadar as a substitute route to the present one. Also in next three to four years NTC plans to extend its services in all districts of Pakistan, move towards strategic partnerships in telecom industry and provide new better services to its users.

Telenor launched its 4G services later than other networks and it’s still growing. Zong was the first company in Pakistan to offer 4g services, and it’s still the largest 4g provider in Pakistan. It’s good to see that Telenor is coming with new ideas and collaborations to spread 4G internet across the country. Talking about Zong and Telenor it is compulsory to mention that Jazz recently became the winner of 4G spectrum auctions by PTA, being the only operator that took part in the auction. It’s good to see that telecom sector in Pakistan is booming and coming up with new ideas and better services for Pakistan. With this amount of effort, hope is that 5G technology in Pakistan would soon be established.
