Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Associations has demanded of the government to replace the Chair-person, Higher Education Commission, Dr Tariq Banuri, and his ‘incompetent team’ for launching policies to harm higher education sector. The demand is to replace Banuri with a skilled person to resolve the faculty issues and save the HEC sector of Pakistan.
Protest has been announced by the Federation in front of HEC on 21st October. The faculty members from all across Pakistan would participate in this protest.
According to the report, an online meeting took place on Oct 6th of the Executive Council. FAPUASA was disappointed in the HEC chief’s attitude towards academia.
It resolved that Banuri has not been able to address the issues of academia. The demands of teachers are of the higher education budget, meddling in the independence of universities, post-PhD experience for BPS faculty condition, time scale promotion, job security, administrative posts, endorsements, increase in salary for TTS faculty, and 75% tax rebate.
In a statement issued Friday, FAPUASA disregarded rejected new research journals and Ph.D. admission policies of HEC. They demanded that FAPUASA must be given representation in policymaking at every level.
In Islamabad, the protest will be on Oct 13, Baluchistan, and KP on Oct 14, Sindh, and Punjab on Oct 15 and AJK on October 16th.
