TCL Announced Prices and Specs For Its 10-Series Smartphones

TCL is a trusted name in consumer appliances. As the company announced at CES-2020, it’s going to give smartphone business a go. It’s not going to launch the flashy, foldable concept phones, but three mid-rangers with decent specs and well-rounded bodies.

The most notable of the three is the TCL 10 5G, which looks like one of the first 5G midrange smartphones to fill up an interesting place. It is powered by the Snapdragon 765G processor from Qualcomm which is the first chipset from the chipmaker featuring an integrated 5G modem. (The Snapdragon 865 flagship also needs a separate modem chip.) Considering that the vast majority of 5G phones have so far been expensive, $1,000-plus flagships, this is a much cheaper 5G entry than most of what we’ve seen on the market so far.

A 6.53-inch LCD display, four rear cameras (64 megapixels, 8 megapixels, 5 megapixels, and 2 megapixels), a 4,500 mAh battery, 6 GB RAM, 128 GB internal storage, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack will round out the specifications. The price is set to be around $399.

Next is the $449 TCL 10 Pro, practically the lineup’s principal flagship. It has a relatively weaker processor than the 10 5 G, with a Snapdragon 675, but considerably better specs, with features such as a 6.47-inch curved OLED display (at 2340 x 1080 pixels) rather than an LCD screen, and a fingerprint sensor in-line. The camera configuration is slightly different, with a main camera of 64 megapixels, a dedicated low-light video camera, a macro lens, and an ultra-wide lense.

Otherwise, the 10 Pro is essentially identical to its cheaper 5G equivalent, with a 4,500 mAh battery, 6 GB RAM, 128 GB storage and a headphone jack.

Finally, there’s the entry-level model, the $249 10L, which is basically a budget version of the 10 Pro. The 6.53-inch display is LCD, rather than OLED (although the same resolution is 2340 x 1080). The Snapdragon 665 processor is slightly weaker, the 4,000mAh battery is slightly smaller, and instead of being built into the panel, the fingerprint sensor is at the back. There’s only 6 GB of RAM, but both a 64 GB base storage package and a 128 GB SKU are available.
