Tax relief of Rs61.4 billion was given to just 191 billionaires by the governments of Prime Minister Imran Khan and the former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
According to the details, the 191 billionaires were caught owning offshore assets but were bailed out through the two tax amnesty schemes announced by both governments.
The financial details of the people, whose data was exchanged by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), have been shared by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) with the National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance.
The tax collection body, however, didn’t disclose the identity of these people as both the PTI and PML-N tax amnesty schemes provided legal cover to keep the names secret of the beneficiaries.
Mohammad Ashfaq—Director General of Directorate of International Taxes of the FBR said that among the beneficiaries, there are few politicians but they were not public officeholders.
