Supreme Court bans the operation of Patwaris in cities

The top court of the country on Thursday has ordered to stop the operation of ‘Patwaris’ in the cities of Pakistan.

Patwaris are the agents who keep all the records of the ownership of the land.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has conclude the suo motu case regarding the operation of the Patwaris and Tehsildars (district level agent).

The apex court has also ordered to ban the verbal transfer of the land saying that any type of land would only be transferred as per the Transfer and Land Act and Registration Act. Patwaris wouldn’t be allowed to keep the land record.

During the hearing of the case, the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar said that the rest of the world has reached the moon but our government still isn’t able to fulfil its basic responsibilities. The top judge further added that verbal land transfers still exist in Punjab and Patwaris are roaming around with the registers. Now the verbal land transfers aren’t any option anymore.
