Submarine Cable Fault- Pakistan Suffered From Rs 1 Billion Loss As Internet Services Went Down

Pakistan’s economy suffered a loss of Rs 1 billion due to recent fault in the submarine cable. As the internet was down in the country for a couple of days due to fault in the cable, work went down, business went down and thus economy suffered.

PTA has asked for a report from the main stakeholders with regard to the fault. IMEWE is the international cable underwater, that bring the internet into the country. As it underwent technical issues, Pakistan faced internet problems from August 5.

Though substitutes were provided to the public in a timely manner but still many businesses in both public and private sector faced hurdles in performing online tasks.

The estimate of loss experienced during the time is being taken as per PTA chairman. Senior Executive Vice President Sikandar Naqi said that now internet services have been restored fully and PTCL did not suffer that much as compared to the country where cable broke down. The repair work is their responsibility.
