Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has disconnected the gas supplies to the hospitals in Karachi.
The supply has been disconnected to Trauma Centre of Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Sindh Government Hospital North Nazimabad and some other defaulting entities.
The reason behind cancelling the supply of gas is the non-payments of the bills since a very long period.
A spokesperson from SSGC said that the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital has been defaulting its current as well as previous bills continuously and the previous debts have now reached a significant height.
The hospital also submitted an undertaking on the last disconnection by the Sui gas company which assured that they will guarantee the payment of bills and 1 million rupees per month. After this undertaking, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital’s gas got restored.
Even though this undertaking was submitted, still the management of the hospital didn’t pay the amount which they agreed on. They used to make payments as per their own comfort which was after 3-4 months in order to offset the existing bill amount and so the amount kept increasing.
The spokesperson said that warning notices were sent to the hospital and some of the official meetings were also assembled for this matter, but no serious responses were given by the hospital’s management so that the outstanding dues could be settled.
Sui Sothern Gas Company’s spokesperson restated that if this attitude will remain continued by the private or government defaulting companies then this crackdown would also continue.
