Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Special Assistant for Health Dr. Zafar Mirza has also resigned, sources said, adding that he was facing charges over the issue of drug prices.
Dr. Zafar Mirza said in his tweet, “I have resigned as SAPM. I came to Flag of Pakistan on a personal invitation of @ImranKhanPTI leaving WHO. I worked hard & honestly. It was a privilege to serve Pakistan. I am satisfied that I leave at a time when COVID-19 has declined in Flag of Pakistan as a result of a grand national effort.”
It should be noted that on the same day, two special aides of Prime Minister Imran Khan have resigned from their posts. Few hours before this, the head of Digital Pakistan, Tania Aidrus, had also announced through a tweet that she has resigned. An inquiry was also underway against Tania Aidrus.
Sources said that Prime Minister Imran Khan had directed an inquiry into the rise in prices of medicines. Dr. Zafar Mirza was accused of raising the prices of medicines. Zafar Mirza resigned on the issue of rising prices of medicines. Dr. Zafar Mirza also said, “Due to ongoing negative discussion about the role of SAPMs & criticism on the gov, I choose to resign. Pakistani people deserve better health care. I have worked sincerely to contribute to this cause. Flag of Pakistan will Inshallah emerge out of COVID-19 with a stronger health care system.”.
