South Korea Launches World’s First 5G Internet Network

South Korea has beaten the US and China to launch world’s first 5G network. On Friday, April 5th South Korea will launch its 5G internet services. The 5G technology will provide 20 times faster internet data speed compared to 4G LTE networks. Furthermore it will also have an improved system for AI and VR.

In the tech field, especially in the development of smart cities and autonomous cars, this launch will create revolutionary breakthroughs. It will boost the economic growth that went to a six-year low in 2018.

Executive Vice President of the SK Telecom Ryu Young-sang said, “It is meaningful that South Korean telecom companies are providing services and networks meeting South Korean customers’ high standard in speed and picture quality”.

Adding, “5G will change the landscape of the gaming industry as it allows games to stream with minimal delay to be played on smartphones”.

Ryu revealed that presently SK Telecom company is making its memory chip SK Hynix in order to create a highly digitized and connected factory that is operated by 5G tech. There are a total of 27 million users of the company and by end of 2019 it is expecting a total of 1 million 5G users.

There is a smaller competitor company with SK Telecom called KT Corp that is planning to offer affordable LTE services that will have unlimited and an installment scheme of 4-year to purchase their 5G devices.
