The Federal Minister for Information and Broadcast, Fawad Hussain Chaudhry said while talking to media, “All the mobile phones that are being smuggled in the country will stop working by the end of the current year. The IMEI number of the mobile phone will be blocked.”

However, the mobile phones users/customers and the sellers/traders have expressed their reservations over the decision taken by the Pakistani government.

The reports further claim that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has already launched a system to start cracking down and block all the illegal and stolen mobile phone devices operating in Pakistan.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) developed an Android app called ‘Device Verification System (DVS)’ to check whether your mobile is smuggled or not. By simply entering a sixteen-digit IMEI number into the app, you can check if your device is legal.

The other way to verify your device is to send an SMS to 8484.

  • Step 1: Go to messages and create a new message
  • Step 2: Type IMEI
  • Step 3: Send to 8484

To find your mobile phone IMEI, dial *#06# on the mobile dialer.
