Smartphones with 12GB RAM would be launched next year

As we have seen in the past manufacturers jumping from 4GB RAM to 6GB RAM and now most of the flagships come with 6GB or 8GB RAM, consumers are also looking for enhancements with every model update. We want smooth running off applications, extra features, and blazing fast speed whenever we look for smartphone upgrades.

Xiaomi has recently launched the Mi Mix 3 with the largest RAM capacity available on the market, but manufacturers are not going to stop there. The demand side is also elastic, with the introduction of new apps and features the requirement for processing power increases.

Micron has announced yesterday that it has started the mass production of LPDDR4X Chip, the performance of this new chip can touch 4266Mbps and single-chip capacity could reach up to 12GB.

According to the details, the company has significantly reduced the power consumption of Second generation LPDDR4X RAM up to 10% as compared to the previous first generation RAM.

The latest 10nm process has made it possible for manufacturers to deploy 6GB to 12 GB RAM after upgrading single chip to 1.5GB. The announcement confirms that Micron’s new chip has currently the highest capacity in the industry and has fastest clock 4x DRAM products.

But Samsung has also released LPDDR4X-4266 RAM this year with 16GB capacity, the chip is also based on 10nm process. However, we also need supporting processors to get this up running.

Huawei’s Kirin 980 chip can support the highest LPDDR4X-2133 Memory at the moment, but it is evident that the 5G era will bring in high-frequency and capacity LPDDR4X to the mainstream.
