Sindh to Set up 5 Hospitals to Handle the COVID-19 Pandemic, Says Minister

As the coronavirus situation is getting critical with each passing day in the country with a significant surge in the number of the affectees, the Sindh health department has made the decision of setting up 5 hospitals and high dependency units for handling the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, the health minister of the province said that in an effort to offer treatment to the coronavirus affectees the government has planned to establish 5 hospitals with the aid of the Frontier Works Organisation. It was also informed that high dependency units with 800 beds would be available by the end of the next month while about 210 ventilators would also be added into the system.

High dependency units also have the facilities of the oxygen delivery system to the patients.

She also elaborated on the challenges being faced by the government for combating against the coronavirus created situation. She said that initially getting the ventilators was a challenge because of the imposition of the international export ban.

She further added that they are continuously trying to facilitate the patients, but urged all to practice the precautionary measures as the first line of defense against the virus is, precaution.

Experts warned the government against the decision to ease lockdown in the country keeping in mind the delicacy of the healthcare system. The lifting of lockdown has resulted in the rate of infections to surge at a faster pace.
