Sindh to Bar Employers from Firing Employees amid the Lockdown

In a meeting presided by the Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Sindh cabinet unanimously approved the COVID-19 Emergency Relief Ordinance 2020.

Once the ordinance is signed in to the law by Governor Sindh Imran Ismail, it would be illegal to fire employees amid the coronavirus lockdown. The lockdown has been implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ordinance will also ensure that the employees are given their salaries by the employers on time.

But the ordinance will allow employers to cut some amount from the salaries of the employees. Once the ordinance comes into effect, the income slabs will be notified.

Also, the private schools will be bound to reduce the school fees by 20% amid the coronavirus lockdown.

Facilities will be given to the domestic consumers to pay their electricity, gas, and water bills of the months of lockdown on installments. This is as per the latest legislation.

Furthermore, the ordinance will limit the landlords from removing tenants. Also, it will mandate discounted house rents amidst the lockdown period.

Magisterial powers will be given to the commissioners of all the districts to make sure that the law is enforced all across the Sindh province. This will also be done under the COVID-19 Emergency Relief Ordinance 2020.
