According to a media report, the provincial government of Sindh has decided to impose a new tax on the use of the underground water in the province.
According to the details, a draft of the law comprises of the recommendations for the proposed tax on the underground water has been prepared by the authorities. In a meeting, the officials of the local government will brief the members of the provincial cabinet over the upcoming Sindh Water Tax Act.
The details of the draft said that the tax of one rupee per liter has been suggested on water. The report further claimed that the tax will be collected from the mineral water companies working in the province.
On the other hand, the proposed tax will also be recovered from the soft drinks manufacturing companies.
It is worth mentioning here that the revenue collected by the tax on the water will be distributed among the Karachi Water Board and the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA).
