It has been announced by Sindh government that the plastic bags will be banned throughout the province with immediate effect from 1st October 2019.
The Spokesperson and Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister (CM) on Law, Environment and Coastal Development, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, made this announcement.
The ban has been imposed by the provincial Department of Environment. As the replacement of plastic bags, cloth bags have been distributed at Teen Talwar, Clifton, etc.
Wahab said, “The object of the distribution is to prohibit the use of plastic bags among the masses.”
The advisor to CM has urged the general public to fully cooperate in this campaign. Also, the markets and factories using plastic bags must play a constructive role in getting rid of them as these bags are harming our environment.
In case, they don’t follow this, they will be dealt with as per the Law after 1st October 2019. Action will be taken against the shopkeepers, manufacturers, and sellers who use plastic bags after 1st October.
He said, “Plastic bags are the main reason for environmental pollution. Fifty percent of rain nullas is choked due to plastic bags.”
The general public was appreciative about the decision taken by the government. They hoped that one day they will live in a safe, clean city.
