Shoaib Akhtar, the legendary fast bowler of Pakistan wants people to start a new drive for a new Pakistan Super League (PSL) team. The team as per him would be called the Rawalpindi Express.
Akhtar’s nickname is the Rawalpindi Express, and his call for a new PSL franchise has come after the ex-Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi asked that the new teams should be added to the PSL squad after every 2 to 3 years.
While Akhtar is asking for a Rawalpindi-based team, Afridi said that Punjab, Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Sindh deserve to have PSL teams as well.
The legendary bowler added that if a Rawalpindi team were to be made a part of the PSL, a rivalry would immediately be formed against Islamabad United.
He also said that the atmosphere in Rawalpindi during the matches has been excellent and he thinks a team should be made from Pindi which should be named Rawalpindi Express.
He further added that he thinks they all should campaign for this to happen as Pindi boys are popular for their attitude and the clash between Islamabad and Pindi would be an exciting one. He said that it would be great to see the Pindi boys take the burger kids of the federal capital.
It is still to be seen that whether the PCB would add more teams in the Pakistan Super League, but at the moment, for the next tournament, they are focused on having matches in more venues, like Faisalabad, Peshawar and Hyderabad.
