Sheikh Rasheed—the Awami Muslim League (AML) Chief has made the announcement relating his resignation from the National Assembly seat.
During the joint opposition rally yesterday (Wednesday), Mr Rasheed not only announced to resign from his seat that he was selected upon in the National Assembly but also encouraged Imran Khan—the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson to follow suit.
Owing to the on-going rally and protest the people of Lahore faced issues in commuting to their destinations as the roads were blocked. The Traffic Police provided an alternate route plan for the locals to avoid inconveniences due to the protest.
The protest rally was staged to demand justice relating the Model Town mishap in Lahore. The rally was led by the PAT, whose chief is Tahirul Qadri. He demanded the resignations of the Punjab Chief Minister—Shahbaz Sharif and the Law Minister—Rana Sanaullah. PAT chief considers these two individuals responsible for the Model Town tragedy.
The AML chief said that I am resigning from the National Assembly, I also suggest to Imran Khan to come and submit his resignation as well.
He also said that these rulers are stubborn and would not be resigning that easily just upon the demand.
The decision taken by Sheikh Rasheed was flanked by the PTI chairperson, who also addressed the rally sometime later in the evening.
He said that he would be discussing the decision relating his resignation from the assembly with his party and chances are that he would also be resigning. He also informed that the resignations of his party were not accepted when they were submitted initially for the first time.
Other party leaders including Mustafa Kamal—Pak Sarzameen Party Chairman, Khurshid Shah—Opposition Leader in the National Assembly and Shah Mehmood Qureshi—PTI Leader said that they also seek justice for the poor victims of the Model Town misfortune.
