Eoin Morgan’s fractured finger would push Shahid Afridi further to take the charge of the ICC World XI team against West Indies in one days.
Morgan was selected as a captain for World XI side in limited overs game, but due to an unfortunate injury, the skipper is replaced by Pakistan’s former captain Shahid Afridi. Sam Billings and Sam Curran along with England’s fast bowler Tymal Mills are also added to the squad.
ICC World XI team is scheduled to play a one-day match with West Indies on May 31 at Lord’s cricket ground London.
Morgan is likely to miss the Twenty20 Fixture at Lord’s because of his fractured right ring finger. But he is likely to recover within 7 to ten days, he might come back in the squad to play a one-day game against Scotland on June 10 in Edinburgh.
After facing Scotland, England will spend the whole month of June playing 5 one days and a Twenty20 against Australia.
The English Batsman was set to lead the World XI team in a friendly game against West Indies which is organized for fundraising purposes in order to repair the stadiums in Dominica and Anguilla suffered damage by hurricanes last year.
England’s Cricket Board Stand-in director Andy Flower said, “it is not a bad fracture but it is bad enough to keep him out of Middlesex and World XI game”
In the absence of Morgan, Shahid Afridi will lead the ICC World XI team.
