Due to the absence of the Sindh education minister for a period of six months, the new academic session for schools in Sindh will be based on 2019’s calendar. The new educational session will start in the province from 1st July 2020. Also, the summer and winter breaks will begin following the academic calendar of 2019.
As per the Sindh school education and literacy secretary Ahsan Mangi, the decision was taken to follow the old academic calendar as the present session was ending and many of the private educational institutions were asking the department continuously to send them the details regarding the new academic session.
Due to an absence of major changes in the schedule of the matriculation examinations, almost 500,000 ninth-grade students from Sindh would have to appear in their board exams after taking the classes just for 7 months. The new schedule will be tougher for the students as they would have to give seven exams instead of five.
The schedule of summer holidays in Sindh has changed by the previous steering committee. As per which the students will take a break in May and June instead of June and July. The winter break will begin on 22nd December and end on 31st December and the school session will resume from 1st January.
Mangi said, “I have discussed the matter with the new minister, Saeed Ghani, and a meeting of the new steering committee is on the cards. Once the meeting is conducted, we are expecting a slight change in the dates of the matric and intermediate annual examinations. However, everything else will take place as per the previous year’s calendar.”
