On Thursday, the apex court granted government 4 more weeks for the revamp of Pakistan Railways for transforming it into a profit-making entity.
The Supreme Court bench, headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed was hearing a suo moto case about the department’s financial losses and how they have been affecting on the national kitty.
As per Ary News, the Supreme Court extended the deadline for the revamp of the department on a request that was put forward by the Planning Commission.
The court furthermore, asked for a progress report on the revival of the Karachi Circular Railway from the Sindh government and from the department of railways.
The secretary railways said that state-of-the-art bridges would be constructed as part of the ML-1 project. The phase one of the ML-1 project would reach completion in 3 years as informed by the railway’s secretary. At this the Chief Justice Pakistan said that 3 years is a long time and that the Chinese people lay down railway tracks in span of months.
He asked the government to complete the project as soon as it could provided that there is the availability of funds.
