According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the estimated cost of general elections 2018 in Pakistan will be roughly Rs20 billion.
The Federal government has acknowledged and assured the availability of funds as demanded by ECP—the sources said.
ECP has further explained the detailed expenses saying that Rs2.5 billion will only be spent on purchasing, printing, and distribution of the special ballot papers.
Rs6 to Rs7 billion is likely to go into remuneration of election duties which has to be conducted with various government employees and temporary workers.
Furthermore, Rs1 billion is allocated for the security, the provincial election commissioners have also sent the details about making polling stations and polling booths in various cities that will also add up the cost. As many as 85,252 stations and 241,132 polling booths will be established for the elections.
However, it is a rough estimate by the ECP which could go beyond the expectations; there are many smaller expenses that are not yet taken into the account.
