Restaurants in Islamabad Closing Down in Protest

It has been announced by All Islamabad Restaurant Association that all restaurants in Islamabad will be closed. As a protest against alleged harassment from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) restaurants have decided to close their outlets.

In a statement released on Saturday, this was announced. The association announced that from April 23rd, Tuesday all restaurants will be closed for an indefinite time period.

The statement said the owners of the restaurants, their employees and families will protest against FBR.

Further adding, “Since last 6 months, due to the revenue shortage, FBR has adopted severe means of harassment. Rather than increasing the Tax Base, they are just squeezing the existing taxpayers.”

It was claimed in the statement that different government departments including EOBI, Social Security, Tourism, and CDA have created issues for businesses. It is against the whole notion of  ‘Ease of Doing Business.’

FBR has not launched crackdown against non-filers, and treated them as ‘dacoits’, said the statement. The government departments have been warned to ‘stop this harassment’ or they won’t end the protest.

It is pertinent to mention here that it is a one-sided story with no statements from FBR or government yet.
