New research has suggested that the best time to exercise is in the morning, before eating breakfast. According to a new study, if men exercise before eating it can double the ability to burn fat. This study was published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.
The University of Bath and the University of Birmingham researchers looked at 30 0bese or overweight men. The men were divided into three groups. The first group exercised before breakfast, the second group exercised after breakfast and a control group made no changes to its daily routines.
The participants ate the same breakfast and did the same exercise i.e. 60 minutes of cycling.
It was revealed in the research that men who exercised before breakfast burned twice as much fat as those who exercised after breakfast.
However, the study could not find any link between the time men exercised with the weight they lost.
Dr. Javier Gonzalez, co-author of the study and senior lecturer in the Department for Health at the University of Bath said, “Our results suggest that changing the timing of when you eat in relation to when you exercise can bring about profound and positive changes to your overall health.”
