On Tuesday the Commissioner of Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani announced that the registration for the second Commissioner Karachi City Marathon has been opened and has asked the citizens to take part in the event. The marathon would be taking place on the 12th of January in the morning at 9 a.m.

While addressing a press conference, Shallwani said that the event would assist in boosting the peace and in creating an image of Karachi as that of a sports-loving city.

He also said that the marathon is a way of bringing the citizens under one roof and on one page. And added that the sporting activities like these could promote the youth and help them in building a sense of ownership of the city among them.

While sharing the details of the marathon, the commissioner said that separate contests would be arranged for the individuals between nineteen years and twenty-nine years in age and of the people who are above thirty years in age. Both the men and women could take part in the marathon, the commissioner said, and further added that separate contest would also be arranged for the old and physically disabled people.

He also said that the prized would be given to 10 people in all the above-mentioned categories. And all the participant would be required to cover 10 km. The race would be starting from the Moin Khan Academy and the track passes via Khayaban-e-Tipu, crosses the Abdul Sattar Edhi Avenue and extends to Khayaban-e-Ittihad and leads back to the place of start that is the Moin Khan Academy.

Camps would be set up along the marathon track for facilitating the participants and offer them water, food, shuttle services and first aid.

Shallwani said that the government of Sindh is planning to hold marathons on a regular basis so that people could engage in a healthy activity.

The citizens who are interested to take part in the marathon could register themselves at the or they might register themselves on the day of the race itself, at the Moin Khan Academy, before the start of the contest.
