RDA Plans to Launch an Aerotropolis in Rawalpindi

On Monday, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has planned to develop an aerotropolis in the city. The news has been confirmed by Chairman RDA Tariq Murtaza.

An aerotropolis is an urban sub-region whose infrastructure, land use, and economy are positioned on an airport. It combines the terms aero- (aviation) and metropolis (city).

As per the details, the aerotropolis will contain oil, petroleum, and mining refineries, special economic zones, residential apartments, an engineering complex, and a technology park.

Moreover, Chairman RDA Tariq Murtaza said that there will be no ponds and excessive plantations in the planned aerotropolis as they entice birds which could cause accidents.

Also, he noted that the aerotropolis would play a crucial role in the development of the city.

In addition, RDA’s Special City Beautification Committee has accepted PC-I of the project to develop pedestrian-only lanes from Bhabhra Bazaar to Raja Bazaar passing through Sarafa Bazaar, Dangi Khoi, and Kalan Bazaar.
