On Monday, Pakistan Railways made the announcement that the routine train operations could be restarted in the nation by the end of this year that is December 2020. The department linked the resumption of the routine train operations with the improved coronavirus situation, as per the reports of local media.
The railways have taken the decision to continue on the partially resumed train service in the nation till December 2020, while keeping in consideration that strict preventive measures against COVID-19 are practiced.
Another decision of operating special trains on Eid-ul-Azha, keeping a check on the count of the traveling passengers, was also taken.
Pakistan Railways announced that even after the services are resumed only a hundred trains would be operated in comparison to one hundred and thirty-eight trains that were being run earlier. According to sources the loss-making express and the shuttle train services would be suspended.
It is important to mention that the sources who are aware of the matter have claimed that the Shalimar Express that operates between Karachi and Lahore is being discontinued.
The sources have also claimed that the discontinuation would be put into effect from the 15th of July onwards.
Another train by the name of Mohenjo Daro Express is to be introduced in the replacement of the Shalimar Express. Mohenjo Daro Express is anticipated to operate at the Main Line 2 Kotri-Attock’s Sehwan Sharif section, as per sources.
