Pakistan Railways in collaboration with China has the plans of laying a high-speed double track from Karachi to Peshawar but it is not finalized yet that how the project would be financed as it would be costing billions of rupees, as informed by Sheikh Rasheed—the Minister for Railways.
He said that railways along with China would be laying a double track from Karachi to Peshawar with a minimum speed of 160 km/hr and a maximum of 260 km/hr if the government gives a green signal.
The minister for railways was speaking to media at the Cantt station Karachi after inaugurating the first scheduled cargo train under the public-private partnership on the route of Karachi to Lahore.
He said that Imran Khan—the prime minister of Pakistan would soon be announcing his verdict on the mode of financing for the high-speed double track rail project. The prime minister would inform that whether it would be an investment or loan or operate and transfer system or public-private partnership or a joint project.
The minister informed that the decision would be finalized before the 23rd of March by the prime minister so that work could be started. He also added that the old tracks which are to be replaced with the new ones would later be utilized for other routes.
He remarked that as there are more railway tracks being added throughout the nation, hence it has become inevitable to halt the increase in train fares.
He also made the announcement of promoting the railway employees on the basis of grades-4.
