Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed—the Pakistan Railways Minister informed on Saturday that the Railways would be launching 6 new trains. He said that the railways have earned Rs 1.1 billion more revenue in the freight sector during the span of the last two months in comparison with the same period of last year.
While speaking at a press conference at the Railway headquarters, he said that the department would make a revenue of ten billion rupees owing to the sincere efforts of its officers and employees.
The minister further said that Dr Arif Alvi—the President would be inaugurating the Dhabeji Express, operating between Karachi and Dhabeji on the 31st of October, whereas the Prime Minister—Imran Khan would be inaugurating the Hyderabad Express, commuting on the route between Karachi to Hyderabad soon after he comes back from his visit to China. The Pakistan Railways would also be starting Rehman Baba and Sindh Express trains.
Sheikh Rasheed asked the administration of the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSX) and others, who were making use of the land owned by the Pakistan Railways of billion of rupees to vacate it on an urgent basis.
He also said that the Wi-Fi facility has been provided at all divisional stations, whereas the cameras and the PR police had also been positioned at warehouses for providing protection to the stocks and assets of railways.
The minister also informed about his plans of launching containers doorstep service in the span of the next 3 weeks for bringing improvement in the freight sector.
He also said that tracking devices on a modern system would also be installed on all the locomotives of railways to approximate fuel consumption and its report would then be available on the internet for people.
Sheikh Rasheed said that for nation’s economy to flourish railways is important as when the trains would run so would the economy.
To a query, the minister said that so far six trains had been launched during the span of the last two months, whereas 6 more trains would be introduced soon.
