Railways to Charge Dam Fund Surcharge from Sep 25

Pakistan Railways would start charging the dam fund surcharge from the 25th of September. The surcharge would be of rupees one (Rs 1), rupees two (Rs 2) and rupees ten (Rs 10). The surcharge would be on the tickets categorized in the economy and business classes from tomorrow that is Tuesday.

Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed—the Federal Minister gave the instructions to the Pakistan Railways. On his directions, the railways decided to raise the fares for all the classes for contributing in the government announced—Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand dam fund.

As per a spokesperson of the Pakistan Railways, the ticket prices would be increased to make sure that the department plays a significant role in regard to the dam fund contribution.

He informed that rupees one would be charged on the buying of an economy class ticket costing rupees hundred and two rupees would be charged for the tickets which cost more than hundred rupees, while an extra amount of ten rupees would be charged on the A/C class ticket. The total gathered amount would be transferred to the dam fund on a monthly basis, it was further informed.

The spokesperson said while providing more details on the matter that no ticket category would be exempted from the surcharge may it be the free privilege passes or the privilege ticket order given to the railways’ staff or general tickets or military vouchers, or e-ticketing or blank tickets or computerised tickets.
